About me

Hi I am Louisa and I turn up at the page most days and write about stuff. Sometimes I spend time out in the woods, sometimes I spend LOTS of time researching stuff on the computer. I feel that I am continually on a journey of spirit, of body and of mind. Oh, and I homeschool my two daughters, Bubble and Squeak.

My journey so far (in regards to health) has been a long one. You can read almost all of it here on this blog. I write about shamanism, Weston A.Price, GDV analysis, metabolic typing, primitive diets, raw milk and other such stuff.

Before children, before husband, I was a vegetarian (and sometimes vegan) for 12 years, but a pretty sickly one at that, suffering from various health issues such as chronic fatigue, depression and stress. My husband got me back onto meat and out of the hole I had got myself into in 1999 and then in 2002 I was diagnosed as having Gilbert’s Syndrome (weakened liver function) and after months and months of internet research and a move from the UK to France in 2004. For a more detailed story see my health page.

In 2012 after having spent the last ten years of my life creating and nourishing my beautiful daughters, bringing them up in a child-centred way and continuing to homeschooling them here in our sleepy mountain home in France, I am falling in love all over again with my 42 year-old body and amazing (and forever supportive and inspirational) husband of mine, Jules. I am detoxing and supporting my body through yoga and barefoot running with much cross-country skiing thrown into the mix in the winter and eating in an instinctive way according to my metabolic type (which is mixed).

The whole world seems open and ready for me to discover it yet again.

My goal for this year is to feel more ALIVE and AMAZING than I have ever done before (don’t tell me how I am gonna know when I feel that, but I will just KNOW). I want to enjoy this fantastic journey here on earth: I want to dance and sing under the waxing moon, feel ecstasy in small pleasures and connect with the earth and my kindred spirits, people, animals and plants again. I totally belive in the power of the body to heal itself – given the right circumstances – and I am deeply commited to the spiritual side of healing. In 2013, I hope to start The Path of Pollen (bee shamanism study course) at the Sacred Tust in Devon, UK and keep my own healing bees here in the mountains of France.

As ever, I am in a constant state of flux and LOVING the ride. Enjoy!

Louisa.

  2. I love your selection of books, just the ones I would have selected, and that you are living this slow, unschooling life. You have trust and faith in the human being, and the courage to live your life according to that trust. You and your family are a homeopathic dose of healing for this frantic hurried world.I found you when I googled the words boredom and children, looking for good articles about why it is ok to let the children be bored!
i work in the Waldorf School community in colorado, USA.

  11. Hi, i just read your response to my comment and im not sure if you emailed me, or not, i may have unknowlingly deleted it… so if you did could you send one again? lol

  12. I am compelled to respond to having been deeply moved by a few of the posts I have been reading instead of cleaning. I try to make these decisions of balance when I can, but it is always a learning process. I have been blessed to have come across your blog, in some ways for validation of my thoughts, ( I live in my head way too much) and in others for the affirmation that hope is the key to much of our life. I was given 4 children to help me return to my childhood and do it again and grow up and into a better me and then God gave me one more just to keep my ego in check. It’s a little “it is what it is” and all of faith.

  13. I’m so glad to have found your blog- will take me forever to read, but I wanted to say “Hi” all the same…I should be cooking dinner :0) I’m only just getting serious about Weston A Price, and have bought my own raw milk and cream for the first time today (have got it via friends before, but not regular).

  14. Hi, I have Gilbert’s syndrome and I also have been battling acne for the last 8 years (I’m 22 now). It has been such a struggle for me – the acne is just sapping the life and confidence out of me. Have you been able to overcome your acne? Do you think it has to do with Gilbert’s? Can you help recommend anything for me?

    • Hi Matt, try the paleo diet, high meat high fat…..I think that is the way to go for Gilbert’s Syndrome. When I cut out gluten my acne stopped, (I had chronic acne as a teenager). If you are not enamored of the paleo diet, try a low carb high fat diet instead, like the G.I. diet. Gluten intolerance can go hand in hand with GS, and also Dairy intolerance. go to paleohacks.com and pick up some tips about eating whilst cutting out grains and dairy – I have been eating this way for a while now and my energy levels are soaring…..

      good luck x

    • Hi Matt, try to see a metabolic typist. He/she will tell you what foodstuffs you should be eating according to your type. In the meantime, try to support your liver by consuming virgin coconut oil (no chemicals) – this is one of the only oils which does not need bile to digest it and should help you to produce more bile and lower the bilirubin levels in your body.
      Hope this helps,
      good luck x

thanks for your comment
